Yesterday was International Women’s Day. As we reflect on the incredible accomplishments achieved by women across the globe, the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences would like to specifically take a moment to recognize and remember Dr. Marie Love Johnson who passed away last November at 88 years old. Dr. Johnson, an alumnus of the University of Connecticut SLP Ph.D. program, made significant and impacting strides in the field of speech pathology. Her accomplishments include the enhancement of the SLP program within the East Hartford public school system, as well as becoming the first African American to be elected as President of the Connecticut Speech and Hearing Association. Her lifelong commitment showcased her drive and determination to enhance the service of the SLP field.
